TABOR & Taxes

What We  Believe

Colorado’s state budget rose to just under $43 billion in 2024, an 8% increase over the previous fiscal year. This brings the state’s budget to an increase of over $18 billion in the last ten years, about a 74% increase for the decade. This proves that state government is receiving a healthy revenue increase even with the pro-taxpayer TABOR restrictions on revenue growth in place.

Thanks to TABOR, Colorado’s income tax burden has not ballooned as badly as it has in other states.  And Colorado taxpayers still receive refunds when revenue exceeds allowable limits.

At Advance Colorado, we believe taxpayers, who fund every dollar state government receives, deserve to have their investment respected. That means continuing to enact modest reductions to the state income tax, and vigorously defending the revenue limits and taxpayer rights contained in TABOR – which have remained popular with 70 percent of Coloradans for three decades.

At Advance Colorado, we believe in an education system that puts Colorado parents and students first through a system that emphasizes:

At the heart of Colorado’s school system is school choice, in which our state has been a national trailblazer for decades. – a system that has enjoyed deep, bipartisan support.

What We  Do

Advance Colorado fights every day to protect your taxpayer rights.

We are the leading defender of TABOR, advocating in the Legislature, the courts, and the media to preserve your ability to vote on tax increases, receive your TABOR refunds, and keep constitutional limits in place on the growth of government.

We led the opposition to the flawed, tax-increasing Proposition HH that was defeated with nearly 60 percent of the vote – a measure that would have eventually ended TABOR refunds.

We also have proposed, and passed, modest reductions in the state income tax to help ensure that taxpayers are not paying more into the system than is needed and necessary.

Colorado is a special place with special people. For too long, leaders have stood by while liberal special interest groups and politicians have turned Colorado into a testing ground for some of the most liberal policies and plans in the nation.
