Mental Health

What We  Believe

According to Mental Health America’s yearly rankings on mental health, Colorado ranked 51st worst for adult mental health in 2022 and 45th in 2023. Colorado has the 11th highest rate of adults considering suicide in the nation today and is the 43rd worst state when it comes to teen suicide.

Effectively addressing issues of mental health is compassionate – and also vital to protecting public safety and preserving the quality of life in local communities across Colorado. Mental health issues are also often at the core of the crises of homelessness and addiction that have become more and more prevalent in our state.

We believe there are a wide range of bold, creative and fiscally prudent policies that can be pursued at the state and local levels that can help men and women suffering with mental health issues seek effective treatment – and help put them on the road to stable and productive lives.

Advance Colorado researches and supports a wide range of policy solutions to effectively address Colorado’s mental health challenges. In our 2024 Policy Agenda, we proposed:

Our Model Local Policies Report also highlighted communities that are creating innovative and effective approaches to mental health, including the partnership between the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and county mental health services.

What We  Do

We craft cutting edge policies that empower parents, taxpayers, and teachers and push back on the status quo interests that resist reform.

Our 2024 Policy Agenda includes several important education reform priorities. Read it HERE

This year, we are leading the charge to protect the school choice rights we currently have – rights that are annually under siege from the education establishment groups that want to eliminate your right to choose the best school for your children. We can secure our rights into the future through a school choice amendment to the Colorado Constitution.

Colorado is a special place with special people. For too long, leaders have stood by while liberal special interest groups and politicians have turned Colorado into a testing ground for some of the most liberal policies and plans in the nation.
